Education in Cameroon: 2026 state of play
Cameroon has succeeded in getting almost all its children onto the primary school path — 5.29 million pupils in 2023/2024, a 96% net enrolment rate — but nearly seven in ten enrolled children do not reach the reading threshold at the end of primary, only one in two completes lower secondary, and the sector’s central dispute, the teacher status, has awaited a signature since October 2023.
