Zoétélé
South Region
Zoétélé is an intervention area of the partner association, in South Cameroon. Impact there is still limited, but field presence has begun — especially around economic empowerment. It is not an establishment of the Belgian foundation.
About 120 km south of Yaoundé, Zoétélé (Dja-et-Lobo department) opens a window onto rural South Cameroon — away from the Nkolmesseng hub, closer to market dynamics and income-generating activities.
The status is intentional: an intervention area, with no office or establishment of the foundation. Related news and events are documented here as they unfold.
Getting to know Zoétélé and the South
Zoétélé is a commune in the Dja-et-Lobo department (South Region), seat of an arrondissement — a rural town on the southern Cameroon plateau, about 120 km from Yaoundé and roughly fifty kilometres north of Sangmélima.
The communal territory combines an administrative town with a vast hinterland of villages: farming, local trade, markets. For humanitarian work, the local lever is not that of a metropolis: it is mainly about accompanying paths to economic autonomy — training, market stalls, income-generating activities — in a rural fabric.
According to INS (ECAM5, 2022), the South Region ranks among areas with the lowest monetary poverty incidence in the country (below the SND30 30.8% target), alongside Yaoundé, Douala, Centre and Littoral. The contrast with the East remains clear; the challenge in Zoétélé is less “regional average misery” than lasting access to income and skills for precarious rural households.
