The real cost of a transfer = listed fees + FX margin, measured against the BEAC peg (655.957 XAF per 1 EUR).
This August 2026 synthesis republishes Remittance Prices Worldwide aggregates (World Bank, CC BY 4.0) for Q3 2025 — the latest official quarterly report curated on this site. Producer: World Bank; publisher of the synthesis: AWAKEN DESTINY.
This is not a provider quote. For an indicative corridor-by-corridor estimate, use our transfer fee comparator. We will update this barometer when a newer RPW vintage is curated.
Key figures ($200 send — RPW Q3 2025 vintage)
Unless noted otherwise, percentages below are the average total cost published by Remittance Prices Worldwide for a $200 send in the third quarter of 2025 (July–September). That is the latest official quarterly report curated in our tools as of August 2026; live provider quotes keep changing.
| Indicator | Average total cost | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Sub-Saharan Africa | 8.46% | Most expensive region to send money to |
| Global simple average | 6.36% | Across RPW corridors |
| Global digital index | 4.59% | Digital channels cheaper on average |
| France → Cameroon (~€140) | 3.08% | Only Europe→CM corridor tracked by RPW this quarter |
| France → Cameroon (~€345) | 2.45% | Relative cost often falls as amount rises |
Bilateral corridor: France → Cameroon
For a send of about €140 (RPW's $200-equivalent tab), the observed average total cost is 3.08% — about €4.31 (€2.40 average fee + 1.37% average FX margin).
The cheapest transparent service on that RPW tab was Remitly at 1.76%. Figures reflect RPW collection (August 2025) and will change.

Belgium → Cameroon: not in RPW
Remittance Prices Worldwide does not publish a Belgium→Cameroon bilateral page for Q3 2025 (nor Germany→Cameroon or UK→Cameroon in the same monitoring set).
For the Belgian diaspora, the closest official proxy is therefore France→Cameroon, complemented by our editorial comparator (dated indicative schedule, unaffiliated) and the BEAC peg.
Method: how to read “real cost”
The zero-fee / zero-margin reference is the fixed BEAC peg: 655.957 XAF per 1 EUR. Any operator converting below that rate takes an FX margin, even with “€0 fees” advertised.
Real cost ≈ (amount paid × BEAC peg − XAF received) / (amount paid × BEAC peg). That is the logic behind our comparator and the RPW illustrations on the transfer-fees page.
- Separate on-top fees from fees deducted from the send amount.
- Convert the operator rate into a gap vs 655.957 XAF/EUR.
- Add fees + margin for total cost in % and in euros.
- Confirm the live quote with the operator before sending — our schedules are not binding.
Limits — what this barometer is not
RPW aggregates (SSA, global, digital index) are not bilateral corridor-by-corridor averages. France→Cameroon is a separate bilateral page.
The official data vintage cited here is Q3 2025. This page’s date (August 2026) is our editorial synthesis date — not the RPW collection window.
Our operator schedule (Western Union, Remitly, Taptap Send, etc.) is editorial and indicative: it educates on real cost, it does not replace the provider’s quote.
AWAKEN DESTINY is not affiliated with any remittance provider. The Belgian foundation funds and supports projects carried out in Cameroon by its partner association — it does not sell money-transfer services.

From family transfers to structural impact
Remittances support relatives month after month. Some of the euros “lost” to fees could, in parallel, fund a regular, traceable gift: the Circle of 5 (€5/month) for education, food aid or empowerment in Yaoundé.
This is not a substitute for family transfers — it is a documented complement, carried by a Belgian private foundation.
