How we calculate the real cost

A transfer has three cost lines. We combine them to compare what arrives in XAF for a given amount paid.

  • Announced fees (fixed, %, or both).
  • FX margin: gap between the provider rate and the BEAC peg of 655.957.
  • Receive method: cash, Orange Money / MTN MoMo, or bank account.
FAQ

Transfers to Cameroon

The most searched questions on fees, FX margins and mobile money.

How do you calculate the real cost of a transfer?

Compare the XAF amount received with what you would get at the BEAC peg (655.957 XAF/EUR) with no fees. The gap — fees plus FX margin — is the real cost, often much higher than advertised “€0 fees”.

01

Why isn’t the provider rate 655.957?

655.957 is the official BEAC peg. Providers apply their own lower rate to earn a margin. That FX gap is often the most expensive part of a transfer.

02

Can I send directly to Orange Money or MTN MoMo?

Yes. Most apps (Taptap Send, Remitly, WorldRemit…) deposit into a mobile-money wallet in Cameroon. Check the applied rate and any cash-out fees at the agent.

03

Why aren’t these prices live?

Provider grids change often and depend on amount, sending country and promos. We publish a dated editorial schedule to teach real cost — not a binding quote. Always confirm with the provider.

04

How can I combine family support and lasting impact?

Transfers help family month to month. Collective giving (like the Circle of 5) funds training, equipment or schooling — structural leverage that a single remittance rarely achieves alone.

05

Go further

What if some of those fees funded impact?

On a €200 transfer, several euros often go to fees and margin. A regular €5 commitment can equip training or schooling — documented, on the ground.
